Ferragosto just ended, but we’re ready for the upcoming weekend of this hot August. Le’s have a look at the main events in Tuscany!
Medieval Festivals and Historical Re-Enactments
In Volterra on Sunday there is the first appointment with Volterra AD 1398, important festival bringing back Volterra to 1398 when is was at its maximum splendor.In Pitigliano the Contea Festival, where a Renaissance banquet and events are re-enacted.
In Serravalle Pistoiese on Friday 17th there is the Palio dei Mercenari dating back to 1302 when the castle of Serravalle was besieged by Lucca and Florence troops, fought together with mercenary archers from Bologna. On the next day, Saturday, there is the Palio dei Rioni di San Ludovico, medieval archers’ tournament.
Markets and Fairs
In Camaiore, in the province of Lucca, until Sunday night a large antiques and collectibles market.On Sunday in Ponsacco the antiques market. In Lucca there is a large antiques market with more than 200 exhibitors on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday in Piteglio the nice Sapori e Saperi, market of local food and arts&crafts together with wine and food tastings. In Pontremoli on Sunday there is the antiques market. In Pitigliano starts Saturday a large art and antiques fair going on until August 26th.
Food Fairs
In Castagneto Carducci there is the Cacciucco Fair to taste this delicious fish soup. In Podenzana in the province of Massa Carrara there is the Panigaccio Fair, that is a tasty not-leaven bread produced locally.
In Radicofani there is the Ravioli Fair where you can taste handmade ravioli. In Borgo San Lorenzo the Tortello and Porcini mushroom fairs. At Pian degli Ontani in Cutigliano, on Pistoia Mountains the Neccio Fair, typical sweet made of chestnut flour served also with fresh ricotta cheese.
Concerts
In Barga starts Friday the Bargajazz Festival and goes on until August 25th with a rich program of events. On Saturday and Sunday free opera in the province of Lucca along the river Serchio thanks to Serchio delle Muse. On Sunday in Pieve di Furfalo in Panicagliora in the province of Pistoia, free concert thanks to Itinerari Musicali.
