Here comes another busy weekend with several events around Tuscany.
Medieval Festivals
Starts Friday and goes on until Sunday the spectacular Medieval Festival of Monteriggioni, that will bring you back to the Middle Ages thanks to several of live performances and other events. In Massacciuccoli Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to midnight go back to Roman times, thanks to the Ancient Rome Festival where you can look at gladiator fightings. In Casole d’Elsa there is the ancient Palio di Casole, traditional horse celebrating San Isidoro.
Food Festivals
In Piancastagnaio there is the Pici and Lumacci Festival. The pici are a typical hand made pasta from Siena and surroundings, while “lumacci” is the dialectal word for slugs. In Sant’Anastasio, small village in Garfagnana, they celebrate local IGP spelt with a Garfagnana Spelt Festival where you can taste a complete menu with spelt and other local products.
In Livorno there is the Cacciucco Festival, part of Livorno Summer Music 2012. In Pratantico, small village near Arezzo there is the traditional Festival of pigeon and ocio, where you can taste local specialties from Arezzo and Tuscan cuisine. In Vicchio in Mugello there is the traditional Tortelli Festival ,where you can taste the best handmade tortelli of the area.
Markets
In Certaldo there is the Fra’ Cipolla market on Sunday where you can buy fresh organic products produced locally. In Carmignano near Prato there is arts and crafts market, as well as in Forte dei Marmi. In Castelnuovo Sabbioni near Cavriglia there is the arts & crafts market for all day on Sunday, as well as free guided tour to the new museum.
