The Etruscan Treasure of Chianciano Terme

Thanks to the tour #termeinterredisiena organized by Terre di Siena, I discovered a real unconventional treasure: the Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme.

The Etruscan Museum

This museum has a unique collection of Etruscan findings, coming from the surroundings of Chianciano Terme where several necropolis have been founded. In addition the museum’s setting is very peculiar and friendly, organized in thematic sections supported by realistic reconstructions.

The Museum is one of the finest Etruscan museums in Italy and each sections preserves incredible artworks, such as the magnificent tomb of an Etruscan Prince dating back to 7th century b.C. counting several bronze manufacts.

Then there are several pieces of a monumental moulded clay pediment dating back to 2nd century b.C. These rare findings show remarkable worship and the terracotta statues are really beautiful. The large statue of Thesan, Etruscan goddess of dawn, is stunning and has been the symbol of several Etruscan exhibits around the world.

Last but not least there is a large collection of Etruscan tombs, that have rich artifacts and enigmatic funerary urns with human form called “canopi”. These particular canopis can be found only in this museum and are great.

The Museum is open every day from April to October from 10am to 1pm and from 4pm to 7pm and it is closed on Monday. From November to March is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 1pm and from 4pm to 7pm. Ticket costs 5 euro and 4 euro reduced.
