Survival Courses at Gli Albori in Maremma

Archaeological workshop at Gli Albori

Workshop at Gli Albori

Last weekend I had the opportunity to participate to my first blog trip in the wild Maremma at Archaeological Park of Gli Albori.

Survival training

The most important par of this adventure at Gli Albori was dedicated to survival techniques, looking back at the Prehistoric era at dawn of civilization. It was a real and intense survival course that thought me how privileged is life now and how hard was it in the past.

In addition to learn how to light a fire, without a lighter of course, and just with some leaves and some wood, you need to preserve the fire during the night and he day in any weather condition. It’s not easy at all, in spite of people like Bear Grylls.

Actually I have to say that Bear Grylls is not as brave as Riccardo Chessa, archaeologist, anthropologist and teacher of survival techniques and lots of other things. He is smart, very passionate, and has a tremendous knowledge of what to do in any condition. He and his team were awesome!

And Riccardo, together with Francesco, thought us how to chip stone and make simple tools to use in every day life. As a matter of fact chipping a stone dates back to Prehistoric Age when man discovered that chert was extremely resistant, but also easy to chip, as well as obsidian was extremely sharp.

Then we created an arrow with the chopped stone and a bow. We learned how to recognized the best wood and how to weave plants to make a string. We also had a archery class and it was really cool!

We learned how to make pottery as prehistoric women used to do. We just had some clay and a shell for decoration. That was it! And these tools are just enough to create incredible vases, as you can see inside the workshop.

After classes at Gli Albori we had then the chance to prove ourselves and what we learned directly into the woods. As a matter of fact we spend the day and the night in the wild Maremma. We were in a woods near Roccastrada, along the river Piloni that eroded large rocks to pass through. And this is was a real adventure that I want to do it once again!

It was great to be a #wildblogger in the lovely and wild Maremma, together with people that I didn’t know but that will be in my heart forever. Going back to dawn of civilization where surviving is your first thought, teaches you how important is life and relationship with others.

Survival Courses

Riccardo Chessa

Riccardo Chessa

Gli Albori organizes survival courses for anyone where you can all of these and much more! I strongly recommend it because it’s a real journey into our past where you can learn how to survive into the wild nature. Courses are for 4 to 10 people and cost about 250-300 euro per person with everything included. Ant course can be customized according to your needs or curiosities and it’s a perfect group and couple therapy.

For more information mail to Riccardo and his team at riccardo_chessa@virgilio.it.
