NOTTILUCENTE from Dusk to Dawn

 

On Saturday June 30th San Gimignano celebrates summer from dusk to dawn with NOTTILUCENTE.

What is NottiLucente?

Nottilucente literally means, what’s gleaming at night, but in geophysics it represents peculiar clouds that are visible only in summer after dusk, when the sun rays reflected are enhanced by a silver light over the black sky.

And this peculiarity aims to be reflected into this night festival night festival celebrating arts and culture with a rich program of events. Several international artists will perform all around the streets and museums of San Gimignano from dusk to dawn. Music concerts, live performances, guided tours, food and wine tastings will be part of the events.

Events calendar 2012

NottiLucente will go on from 5pm on Saturday to 5am on Sunday morning and all events are free. The events starts at Porta San Matteo with the concert of the Filarmonica Puccini Orchestra.

In Piazza della Cisterna from 5pm to 9pm there are several music concerts and stories about traveling, while in Piazza Duomo there are screenings of travel movies for all night.

At 5.30pm guided tour to the Church of San Pietro in Piazza Sant’Agostino and at 8pm guided tour to the Church of San Jacopo in via Folgore. reservation is recommended by calling 0577993012.

At 5.30pm and 6.30pm guided tours to San Gimignano painting between ‘400 and ‘500. Meeting point in Piazza Duomo and reservations are recommended by calling 0577993012.

From 5.30pm to 9pm wine and food tastings at the Wine Museum at Rocca di Montestaffoli.

From 6pm to 8.30pm games and creations with maps and itineraries in the garden of the Public Library in via Folgore.

At 6.30pm, 7.30pm, 9.30pm and 10.30pm guided tours to the Picture Gallery and Torre Grossa. Reservations are recommended by calling 0577993012.

At 9.30pm in Piazza Duomo Cage’s Parade, nice happening-parata with 9 dancers and other light figures performing.

At 10pm guided tour to the Spezieria of Santa Fina in via Folgore. Reservations are recommended by calling 0577993012.

The events end at 5am with a classical concert in Piazzale Martiri Monte Maggio. Then cappucino and croissants for every one!

Other information

All Civic Museums are open for free until 1am, as well as the Medieval Museum of San Gimignano 1300 is open from 3pm to 2am for free. Also the Major Salvucci Tower is extraordinarily opens from 3pm to 2am.

All shops are open until late night, as well as restaurants and cafés.

Park for free in Fugnano and get the free shuttle bus in service from 5pm to 5am. You can either park at Giubileo for a flat rate of 1,50€ for all night from 8pm to 8am or at Montemaggio and Bagnaia for 5,00€ all night.
