Terracotta Festival in Montelupo Fiorentino

 

Lots of people don’t know Montelupo Fioreitno, beautiful town in the countryside of Florence.It is small but it’s famous worldwide for handmade terracotta.

In Samminiatello, nearby the center of Montelupo, were created the first klins located close to the Arno River. The magnificent terracotta made here were exported all around Tuscany and Italy and were the favorite of the Medici’s family. Nowadays they maintain their magnificence. They terracotta you buy in several tourist destinations, like San Gimignano and Amalfi, are made in Montelupo.

To celebrate this ancient tradition starts today the Terracotta festival in Samminiatello. It is an important event where you can look at artisans working terracotta, taste good wine and local food, listen to music and much more. There will be created a Renaissance workshop with famous masters and several students.

The festival will go on until Sunday, when there will take place the terracotta market, the perfect occasion to buy incredible handmade ceramics. It will end with fireworks, anticipated by the spectacular flight of Toppile, the lighted policeman flying from the bell’s tower to Piazza dell’Orcio.
