Giotto was a young shepherd when he met his master Cimabue. He was born in Vicchio in Mugello in 1266 and used to pasture along the River Ensa.

One day Giotto sitting with his sheep near a bridge between Vicchio and Borgo San Lorenzo and was drawing a sheep on a stone with a chalk. Cimabue was passing by and noticed this young shepherd and his incredible draw. Cimabue was so struck by Giotto’s skill that decide to bring him with him and teach him fine arts. Then Giotto became one of the most talented artists of Italian art.

I took this nice pictures of sunflowers where Cimabue met Giotto.
