Grape Festival on Elba 2012

This weekend Elba is going to be very busy thanks to Festa dell’Uva, i.e. the Grape Festival in Capoliveri from September 28th to 30th.

A bit about Festa dell’Uva

Festa dell’Uva is a great festival celebrating the harvest, grape, wine and Bacchus, God of Wine. All the events of the festival are strongly related to wine and grape and include wine and food tastings, including a special contest among the four districts of Capoliveri.

As a matter of fact Fosso, Fortezza, Torre and Baluardo will challenge each other to dress up their districts as the best according to grape, harvest and wine theme. Every corner, square and street will be dressed up for the occasion, as they were live paintings.

The program

On Friday September 28th the 4 districts challenge each other in different games such as rolling the barrels, pressing and picking the grape. Games start at 9.30pm as well as food and wine tastings.

On Saturday September 29that 6.30pm the blessing of the four districts at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, then at 7.30pm the festival starts with food and wine tastings and other events.

On Sunday September 30th the festival starts at 10am. At 2pm the districts walk along the streets in a colorful pageant and then at 4.30pm you can visit each district and vote. At 9pm free concert in Piazza Matteotti.
