This weekend in my hometown Impruneta we celebrates the traditional Festa dell’Uva. Come and see!
A bit of history
The Grape festival of Impruneta is one of the oldest in Italy and was started in 1926 to promote wine made locally by the farms in the surroundings. Farmers use to come and show off their products using their carts drawn by oxen.
Then the four districts of the city decides the challenge each other for the best dressed up chart. So every year Pallo’, Sante Marie, Fornaci and Sant’Antonio create unique carts, perform incredible dances according to the grape’s theme. The best cart and performance win ad can make fun of the others for a year long!
The large carts are extremely elaborated and all handmade by local people, who prepare it every night after work with love and passion for their city, their district and their traditions.
Festa dell’Uva 2012
The Grape festival is on Sunday September 30th and starts at 3pm in the beautiful Piazza Buondelmonti in Impruneta. The carts will march on a parade and at 7pm the winner will be announced. Ticket costs 6 euro per person and you can buy them at the entrance of the square.
There will be also the arts and crafts market and wine and food tastings and market! For more information visit the official site Festa dell’Uva Impruneta.
