Calcio Storico Parade


This is the fourth weekend in June and is a special one since on Sunday we celebrate Saint John the Baptist, San Giovanni, that is patron of Florence and other cities in Tuscany.

Medieval Festivals and Celebrations

In Florence on Sunday take place the celebrations of San Giovanni, that include the finale of Calcio Storico Fiorentino between the Whites and the Blues and the fireworks at night. On Friday there is also the first historical re-enactment of the Joust of the Florentine Republic at 5.30pm in Piazza Santa Croce. Even in Villafranca in Lunigiana take place the celebrations for San Giovanni that starts today and go on until Sunday with lots of events, including special markets. As well as in Radicondoli in Siena surroundings there is the Feast of San Giovanni, with wine and food tastings, arts and crafts, music and much more.

On Saturday and Sunday in Colle Val d’Elsa there is the magnificent Renaissance of Colle, important festival commemorating city’s maximum splendor. On Saturday there is the June edition of the Saracen Joust within the spectacular Piazza Grande in Arezzo. In Chiusi in Siena surroundings there is the medieval festival Tria Turris.

Markets and other events

In San Gimignano on Saturday and Sunday there is a large antiques and collectibles markets, as well as in Viareggio. In Florence on Sunday there is the monthly appointment with the large flea market in and around Piazza dei Ciompi. In Viilafranca there is the antiques and old books markets.

In Le Piazze near Cetona there is the Bico Food Festival, celebrating this special bread called Bico together with other local products. In Certaldo there is the Fra’ Cipolla Market, a local farms’ market where you can buy fresh organic food. In Montespertoli there is the Ficattola Food Festival. Ficattola, is a traditional food consisting in fried dough that e eat together with ham and fresh cheese or just plain. In Montespertoli there is also Veglie sull’Aia, where you can have wine tastings directly on the farm yard for just 1,50€!
