Carnival festivals in Tuscany

February means Carnival in Tuscany! Let’s see together the next appointments all round Tuscany.

In San Gimignano the carnival takes place on Sunday 12th, 19th and 26th of February. Several colorful floats go around the medieval center of the city. There are music and entertainment for everybody. The parade starts at 3.00 pm.

Nearby Vinci, in the villages of Sovigliana and Spicchio, there is a nice Carnival, that is at its 19th edition. A great parade of large floats go around the cities’ centers surrounded my lots of colorful masks. It takes place on the next three Sundays and also on February 21st, the Mardi Gras. For this occasion the parade will be at night and will reach the Arno River.In addition you can taste and buy local products since takes place a local market.

Another nice event is the Medieval Carnival in San Casciano, near Florence, that will be held on February 18th from the dusk to dawn. The city will be brought back to its ancient splendor thanks to costumed characters wandering around and entertaining adults and children. There will be jugglers, magicians,  musicians, knights and ladies. Look at the event’s program (in Italian)!

Anyway, these are just a few suggestions. All round Tuscany on the next Sundays you’ll find lots and lots of events related to the magical Carnival. Just go around and don’t forget your costume!
