24 hours in Florence for a couple in love

In love in Florence

At the beginning of March, more exactly on March 6th, my husband and I celebrated 6 years together. We have an interesting story that one day I would tell you, but for now I wanna just say that we didn’t have many time to spend as piccioncini, i.e. couple in love. So we decided to celebrate this sixth anniversary by spending 24 hours in Florence, just the two of us, allowing ourselves to relax, have fun together and don’t worry about whatever.

Here follows my suggestions to spend a romantic gateway in Florence, one of the most romantic cities in the world for me.

Relax, don’t move

The best moment of the day to start a romantic gateway is the afternoon after work. We checked in at Borghese Palace Art Hotel at 5pm to have the time to relax before the night. Actually Borghese Palace, a luxury 5 stars hotel located few steps from Bargello Museum, has a small spa center in the old cellars of this noble Spa . So what a better start than a massage and a bath in the jacuzzi for two? I would say nothing else!

After a shower we dressed up for the night and had Aperitivo at Borghesino. This bar is located inside the hotel but it’s open to the public – entrance on Via dei Pandolfini – and it’s renowned for the cocktails of Barbara. She is a talented bartender and prepares quite unique cocktails using only fresh ingredients and following her secret recipes. I got a Dolce Vita cocktail, of course, accompanied with delicious club sandwiches.

Cheers to the night

After aperitivo at Borghesino it was dinner time and we chose Gecko in San Niccolò area. This bar & grill opened last summer and offers a hip atmosphere, delicious BBQ food and good drinks. This restuarant is the perfect start for a romantic walk along Lungarno, i.e. the side of Arno river.

We took quite a long night walk from Piazza Demidoff to Ponte Vecchio, taking the time to stop taking pictures and kissing. We then crossed the Uffizi and Piazza della Signoria to reach the Duomo, to admire its majestic beauty by night. And when the city was asleep went back to our room to have some rest.

Buongiorno Firenze!

The night passed by and we had very good sleep at Borghese Palace. We ordered breakfast in room to cuddle some more time, since our time was running by. While planning the last few ours for the two of us, we took some time to look at the artworks in the hall of this Art hotel. Now you can see the pop works by Corsican artist Anto fils de Pop, an exhibition worth to visit.

Time to check out and go shopping at local market of Sant’Ambrogio, that runs from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 2pm in Piazza Ghiberti. There you can find fruit and vegetables, organic and local products, flowers as well as clothings and shoes.

Before going back to everyday life we stopped to have a brunch ad Ditta Artigianale in Via de’ Neri. This hipster cafè offers a large selection of coffee and a very good brunch/lunch menu with specialties from around the world.
