September has starter and this is already the second weekend of this lovely month. Let’s have a look at this busy weekend of events in Tuscany!
Medieval Festivals and Historical Re-enactments
In the beautiful medieval hamlet of Staggia Senese on Sunday September 9th there is the medieval festival “From blades to roses” re-enacting dances and fightings of the Middle Ages. Entrance costs 8 euro per person and reservation is mandatory.
In Prato until September 16th there is a medieval festival in Piazza Mercatale with a military camp, medieval market, as well as medieval food. In Signa on Friday night there is the traditional Palio of the Archers and the medieval festival going on until Saturday.
In Scarperia the Diotto celebrations on September 8th with the costume pageant, and in Castel del Piano on Sunday the historical Palio delle Contrade dating back to the 18th century and related to the Virgin celebrations.
In Prato on September 8th there is the holy exhibit of the Virgin girdle and the Corteggio, a spectacular costume pageant with 400 figures! On Sunday there is the Palla Grossa ancient football match.
In Florence and surroundings on Friday and for the weekend the traditional rificolona.
Markets and Fairs
In Montecarlo there is the important Montecarlo Wine Festival until Sunday for food and wine tastings, in Greve in Chianti there is the important Market and Fair of 46th Chianti Classico Expo.
In Pistoia on Saturday and Sunday the antiques market, as well as on Sunday in Massa Marittima, Forte dei Marmi and Carmignano. In Cortona ends this weekend the important Antiques fair Cortona Antiquaria.
In Montalcino the weekend is dedicated to Honey Festival with tastings and other events i the ancient castle, while in Lucca there is Murabilia, flowers and plants festival, in Pontedera the traditional Fair of bells and whistles and in Santo Spitiro the Fierucola, small market with arts and crafts and local products.
