Florence is the cradle of the Renaissance and this is what makes Florence famous all around the world. But it has also a contemporary heart that pulses inside Palazzo Strozi. This is the Center for Contemporary Culture Strozzina, perfect place to discover contemporary art and culture.
CCC Strozzina
Strozzina was created in 2007 inside the Renaissance Palazzo Strozzi to create a space for contemporary art in the historical center of Florece. Following the trends of contemporary culture the center organizes interesting exhibits, as well as particular art installation within the courtyard of the palace.
Since its opening Strozzina displayed several international artists including American video artist Bill Viola, English conceptual artist Damien Hirst, South African film-artist William Kentridge and many others. A peculiarity of the center is to display famous artists together with young and unknown artists to combine different approaches to contemporary art and culture.
Activities and events
Visitors have an active role inside Strozzina center and this is why it organizes several activities, workshops and events all year round. A rich calendar of meetings, lectures and talks can be found here.
Among those activities, I love the special workshops for families. These workshops, focused on the main theme of the ongoing exhibit, give to families the opportunity to approach children to contemporary art in a different way. As a matter of fact behind art you approach art culture throughout your creativity, your emotions and your family relationships. Another appointment I love at Strozzina is the Thursday Squared, when the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi becomes a stage for live music and for creativity. It takes place every second Thursday of the month from 7.30pm to 10pm.
Information
The Center for Contemporary Culture Strozzina is located inside Palazzo Strozzi, actually in the cantine of the palace. It opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 8pm, closed on Monday. Every Thursday free admission to exhibits, that is opened until 11pm.
Full tickets are 5€, but you can get a combined ticket to visit both the exhibits of Palazzo Strozzi and Strozzina at 10€. Families workshops are included but should be reserved. I suggest you visit the official website for more information and to check what’s going on.
