This Sunday, April 7th, in San Casciano Val di Pesa there is the Medieval Carnival re-enacting the Siege of Castruccio.
The event
San Casciano is strategically located between the valleys of Chianti and Valdelsa, within 20 km from Florence. In 1326 Castruccio Castracani, Italian condottiero and duke of Lucca, took control over the castle of San Casciano and destroyed it.
The medieval carnival wants to bring you back at this difficult period of the local history. The central event will be the Joust of the Boroughs, when the four five boroughs, the Horse, the Lion, the Lilium, the Tower and the Rooster, will fight each other in front of Castruccio to win the city’s key.
The event’s calendar is rich with shows of lots of streets artists, figures with beautiful medieval costumes and the falconers’ exhibit. From 10am and for all day long San Casciano will go back to the Middle Ages!
Entrance is free. For more information visit the official site.
