Earthquake in Italy

Northern Italy has been shook by a magnitude-6.0 earthquakeat 4:04 a.m. and again in the afternoon.

The earthquake had its epicenter about 35 kilometers north of Bologna at a depth of 5 kilometers. The epicenter was between the towns of Finale Emilia, San Felice sul Panaro and Sermide, but it was felt in Tuscany and northern Alto Adige too. It was the worst quake to hit the region since the 1300s.

Six people were killed and dozens of people were injured. Several centuries-old buildings were knocked down, together with an ancient clock tower and causing millions in losses to the region.

This quake had the same magnitude of 2009 earthquake that shook the central city of L’Aquila. More than 300 people were killed and the city was completely destroyed. Today the historic center is still largely uninhabited and in ruins.
