Valdorcia is not just Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano, but also the lovely Bagno Vignoni, that I visited thanks to #TermeinTerrediSiena.
Bagno Vignoni
The tiny village of Bagno Vignoni is one of the beauty of Valdorcia. It’s renowned for its thermal baths and has a large thermal pool at the center of the village called the “Square of sources“. It has been a famous thermal destinations since Etruscan and Roman times. Over the centuries important figures came here for thermal baths such as Lorenzo the Magnificent.
The village preserves its medieval look and it’s really nice to walk around and enjoy is relaxing atmosphere. There are a few shops of Tuscan products such as pottery and leather. There are also a few restaurants and bar.
For a quick lunch you can go to Bottega del cacio, where you can taste local flavors and wine. Otherwise for great Tuscan food there is La Terrazza restaurant overlooking the Square of sources. The restaurant is part of the charming Hotel le Terme, very green and innovative hotel.
Outside Bagno Vignoni there is the small river of thermal water where you can have some relaxing time dipping your feet into. If you want to take a free bath you should go down to the river, by driving for a few miles.
