Christmas crèche at Rivoli Hotel

Christmas Crèche are a traditional appointment in Tuscany. When I was a little child I loved going with my father to see this giant constructions with running water and figures in movements. Even thought the tradition comes from South Italy, in Tuscany we have several exhibits all around. So, let’s have a look together.

Christmas Crèshe in Florence and surroundings

In Florence at Hotel Rivoli, former convent dating back to 14th century, there is a great exhibit of artistic crèches by the famous artist Claudio Ladurini. There are 26 crèches exhibited, one different from another. The exhibit is from December 2nd to January 6th and opens every day from 11am to 9pm.

At Florence Charthouse there is a large mechanic crèche simulating day and night with big and detailed figures. It opens everyday until January 5th. In Piazza Buondelmonti in Impruneta there is the terracotta crèche until January 6th. In Lastra a Signa at Villa Caruso Bellosguardo there is the 18th century crèche of Enrico Caruso opens every day from December 8th to January 27th.

In Cerreto Guidi almost every citizen makes his own Christmas crèche all around the city center. Also in Palazzuolo sul Senio there is the 1000 Christmas crèches, a large exhibit around the streets with a thousand crèches one different from the other. The exhibit is from December 4th to January 6th.

In Pisa in the Church of San Martino in Kinzica there is the Neapolitan crèche by Costantino e Fabio D’Urso from December 8th to January 8th. In the crypt of San Pietro in Vinculis Church there is a crèche opens from 10am to 12pm and from 5pm to 7pm from December 20th to January 9th.

At Pisa Chart house of Calci there is the large crèche by Renzo and Alberto Meucci, who built it in ’50s. The exhibit is open from 3.30pm to 6pm during the Christmas holidays. In Montopoli Val d’Arno within the cloister of San Romano there is a large crèche, that needed 2 months of work to be realized. It’s open every day from 9.30am to 12.15pm and from 2.30pm to 7.15pm. In the Parrish Church of San Battista of Cigoli there is one of the largest artistic crèches in Tuscany. It opens from 9am to 8.30pm.

In Cortona there is the Christmas crèche of the Church of San Filippo, made with the reconstruction of local monuments. In Ossaia there is a mechanic crèche made with recycled materials.

Christmas Crèches in Siena and surroundings

In Bettolle there are five crèches along the streets from December 9th to January 6th.

In the village of Vivaio there is a large Christmas crèche, that requested more than 4 weeks to be built with lots of nice details.
